Sherriff Creek and VTA, August 28, 2014

Commentary by Emily W.
Thursday, August 28 was a T.B.A. hike.  Four hikers showed up and decided to check out the work that had been done at the Sherriff Creek Conservation Area.  We parked at the main entrance to Sherriff Creek and hiked along the causeway to the junction of the Red and Yellow Trails.  There is a new level entrance to the Yellow Trail so no more need for those stairs across the ditch.  We went to the cliffs over looking Horne Lake and proceeded to the Mount Dufour Ski Hill. From there we followed  the Family Ski Run and took the trail behind the ATV Clubhouse to the Horne Lake Island. We enjoyed lunch under the pines. The cool wind off the lake encouraged us to pack up and continue our hike back to the trail . We did very well climbing up the steep creek bed to the VTA and Coureurs de Bois Trails. We took the VTA trail back to the Yellow Trail. On that stretch we did some trail clearing.  We stopped frequently during the hike to look at different mushrooms and eat blackberries.   We did about 10 km.   It was a  beautiful day for a hike.  No photos for this hike.
