McCarthy Falls, March 3, 2015

Commentary by Emily W.
Tuesday, March 3 was dark and stormy day. Over 15 cm of soft, fluffy powder fell .   Eleven intrepid snowshoers followed skidoo trails to McCarthy Falls.   We saw   tracks of  snowshoe hare, moose, wolf and  possibly mink along the way.  We had lunch on the hill over looking the falls.  The knolls on the trail looked very imposing but, for some reason those hills just seemed to "flatten themselves out" as we skimmed along back to our vehicles.

Another unexpected hike occurred just after we were headed back to town.  A motor  vehicle accident had caused Hwy 108 to be shut down near the Nordic  Mine Rd leading to the  Golf Course.  The news was that the road would be closed between 6 to 8 hours.  We parked our vehicles along Nordic Mine Rd and got back into our  snowshoes for the trek into town.  Some of our hikers contacted people in town to meet us at  Esten Dr S.   Thanks to lots of teamwork we were all back in town before 3:30 pm.

Thanks to Grant for breaking trail and all his help !

A total distance of about 9 km was travelled by the group.  It was the first hike with our club for one person and he wants to come back!!"
