Eight intrepid hikers ventured on the frozen Esten Lake hearing the moans and groans of trapped air under the ice. As the ice surface freezes and thaws , the air trapped beneath the ice layers tries to free itself thus the moan like sound emits. Too cool . Never venture on your own on frozen lakes without consulting an experienced individual first. We had information prior to travelling on Esten Lake that there were 20 inches of good solid ice from experienced ice fishermen.
