Cup & Saucer hike July 30, 07

14 turned out for the Cup & Saucer hike on Manitoulin Island on Monday, 3oth July. This number included 3 guests of Jean-Guy & Rae. It was a sunny, warm day, with light humidity and a forecast of about 27 degrees. We were lucky to have a cooling breeze and most of the trail is shaded. After a couple of very steep climbs the trail levels off and follows the precipitous cliffs for at least half of the 12 kilometers. It rejoins the cliffs about 3/4 of the way and is generally a very scenic hike with views across the island and the North Channel. Unfortunately, it has not been regularly maintained and there are a number of blow-downs to be removed. One caution, look out for poison ivy, there's lots of it. We took our time, had plenty of water and rest stops, including 2 lunch breaks and completed the hike in about 5 hours.
A pretty fresh-looking group at the start

Still looking pretty good eh?

This is poison ivy and so is this

Looking a little more weary now at half way.
