Fred has long wanted to return to the area he haunted and hunted as a younger man, in the Reception Lake area north and west of the White River Road. 5 of us took up the challenge and made the trek on Sunday 21 Oct. It was a tough climb and a fair amount of bushwacking. We used the trail to Bolger lake and then bushwacked up to Reception Lake. From there we headed south east, again bushwacking, to an unnamed lake and back to the highway about a kilometer from our start point, a 6 hour hike. What a day! Beautiful scenery, great fall day and an area we seldom see. We do plan it as a "high" intermediate hike annually. Thx to Nancy-Jo and Shelley for the pics.

The easy part, into Bolger Lake

Bolger Lake and the cliffs that were our next challenge

A boreal owl, as curious about us as we were about him/her

Quite a way up

Our objective, the un-named lake

Fred, I think it's that way!

Made it! Meeting the trail into the un-named lake.
The following to the tune of "Beverly Hillbillies"
Now This is the story of a man named Fred,
Long ago went huntin' to keep his family fed,
Then the other day he said "for goodness sakes"
I've gotta go back and explore those hidden lakes.
We hiked up the trail like a bunch of silly stiffs,
Huffin' & a puffin' up those rocky cliffs.
But when we reached the top it took our breath away,
We hadn't seen such beauty for many a day.
The moral of this story is to step up to the plate,
So get out an see it before it is to late.
You may think, is that too much for me?
but just think of the things that you are goin' to see!
Lakes, that is, the shield, wildlife.....
