McBean Mountain Hike

Is this the way? Or shall we take the woossy road? This route, following the direction of the arrow, is more of a challenge and involves more rock climbing than the road access.

Thanks to Scott for the pics. 11 of us tackled Mt McBean on the Sagamok Reserve on Thurs. 15 Oct. A cool but bright day and dry! McBean is mainly a quartzite formation and is part of the range that stretches east to the LaCloche Mountains. The route took us up an old road to a point below the top and then we followed cairns and old sign to the top. The local First Nation people use this mountain as a sacred place and conduct vision quest ceremonies at the top. The route was fairly well marked and Grant added some tape, where required, for future hikers. The views of the North Channel are unparalleled, with Manitoulin Island in the distance to the south of the islands that cluster around the mainland shore.

Praying for guidance?

Well, that's where we gotta go!I'm goin' home, so there!

Hard not to be in awe of the views

Lunch at the top, out of the wind and bathed by the sun.

What views! The North Channel and Manitoulin Island

Drinking it in!

Still some brilliant colours enroute
