Larry C. Memorial Hike, Sept 4

Commentary and Photos by Allan
This morning 28 hikers led by Steve visited Rooster Rock in memory of Larry Clinesmith. Carol and Lionel spoke about the significance of the location to native people who used the site for vision quests and fastings.  Carol paid homage to the four winds (directions) of our earth and the four colours of its' people: Black, White, Red and Yellow. She tied symbolic ribbons in those colours to a pine tree overlooking the lake. Carol presented Gail with coloured ribbons and a feather in honour of Larry.  Many members recounted stories about Larry and paid tribute to his memory. I think we were all moved by the experience.  Mother Earth provided the perfect atmosphere of tranquility: Quirke Lake was like polished glass, reflecting the clouds in a mirror image. Following the hike, most of the hikers attended a lunch at the Coachman.
