Over the past year or so there have been hikes along the Spine Rd Ski trail. Every so often someone mentions that Hector Lake is close to the trail. No one ever found it. It haunted us!!
Thursday, Jan. 10, eight intrepid hikers set off to have lunch at Hector Lake. It was a warm and sunny day. We snowshoed south from the parking lot along a snowmobile track to Slipper Lake, then west and then back towards the east along the OFSC trail to some stone cliffs near Spine Road Beach. We then went back west through the bush to Hector Lake. People enjoyed their lunch on the shore and some sun worshipping souls even sat on a beaver lodge while they enjoyed the rays. No complaints were heard from the tenants. There was also a beaver trail leading down from the bush towards the beaver lodge. The hikers went up and down many hills on their 6 km journey but it was all worth the view on such a gorgeous day.
