General Meeting May 20, 2014

Meeting opened at 7:00 pm by Jim M. welcoming all.

Minutes of Meeting of March 18, 2014 approved and accepted by Shirley Y. and Pam T.

Secretary-Treasurer Report

Donna reported on all incoming monies and outgoing expenses since the last meeting.  Motion was made to accept Secretary-Treasurer report by Shelley M. and Ron T.

Trail Master Report

No report to be made.

Old Business

Reminders were made to put Sweeps name on sign-up sheets and to log trail clearing that needs to be done.
Sign up sheets to be handed in to Jim M. (for stats) who will give them to Donna.

Membership dues are to be paid directly by members to the Soo and let Donna know when it is done so she can update the membership list.

If paddle outings are on the blog, it should be noted as a "non-sanctioned event" on the blog.

First Nations have no problem with us hiking Thunder Mountain, but certain protocols must be met, namely: ask permission first, ask for an escort or guide.  NO photos of the sites, gift of tobacco.  Rooster Rock must be hiked with the same protocols stated above.

Gerry J. told us that it will be slow getting renewed hike leader certificates but they will come.

New Business

Motion was made to purchase one cordless chainsaw for trail clearing purposes.  Three people will check out costs.  It was agreed to give permission for the club to purchase a cordless chainsaw not exceeding $700.00.  Motion was made and accepted by Emily W and Phill B.

Motion was made for our club to be "Host" at Mississagi Park - Lot 41 - this summer.  We would be working along with Sarah Daigle who is the park administrator.  Motion was accepted by Gerry J. and Shelley M.

A suggestions was made by Ingrid F. and Shirley Y. to make an easy format for suggestions for any new members for etiquette for hikers.

Volunteers will be needed to guide the rangers when they clear Cobre Trail and other local trails, dates to be decided.

Volunteers are needed to organize the Christmas party obn December 4, 2014 at the Moose Lodge.

Any donations from Algoma Health Unit was not in money directly to our club, it was in the form of winterfest cookout expenses, trail clearing snowshoes and safety equipment and signs for trails.

Suggestions was made to text the walking stick display at the Civic Centre as "WALKING STICKS AWARDED TO DIANA AND ALAN DAY IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COUREURS DE BOIS OUTDOORS CLUB OVER MANY YEARS"  "STICKS CARVED BY RENOWNED ARTIST FRANZ OHLER".  Approved and accepted by Chuck Z. and Jean-Guy L. 

Upcoming Events

Highway cleanup will be in Sept/Oct - dates to be decided.

BBQ at Lumberjack Days at Mississagi Park long weekend in August - volunteers needed.

Hike Leaders meeting 2nd Tuesday of September at Clubhouse at 2:30 pm.

General Meeting - dates to be decided. 

Trail clearing part of XC Ski Trail in October.  Sign up sheet available for volunteers.

Christmas Party - December 4, 2014 at the Moose.
