General Meeting January 20, 2015

Meeting opened at 7 pm by George H, welcoming all including our guest speaker Carol Blaquiere , president of the VTA from Sault Ste. Marie.
Minutes of the Meeting of May 20, 2014 was approved by Gerry R and seconded by Emily W.
Secretary-Treasurer Report
- Donna reported all incoming monies and outgoing expenses since the last meeting.
- Motion was made to accept secretary-treasurer report by Phil B and seconded by Gerry R.
- Ron T stated that Route 66 was attempted for trail clearing.
- He would like to make monthly Fridays to clear a trail.
- We are to let Ron know of any trails that are in need of clearing.
- A motion was made and accepted by Gerry J and Jerry R to purchase a sleigh to carry trail clearing equipment during winter months.
- A reminder was made for sweeps to put their name on all sign-up sheets.
- Membership dues are to be made directly to the VTA and notify Donna to update list.
- New members should notify Donna to put your name on membership list right away.
- When paddle outings are put on the Blog, make sure it says “not a sanctioned event”.
- New sign-up sheets are to be used for all hikes, please destroy the old ones.
- Sign up sheets are to be passed on directly to Jim M, who will then give them to Donna.
- The NO DOGS policy is still in effect.
- Thunder Mountain First Nations protocol are:
- 1. ask permission first ( Isaac Day)
- 2. ask for an escort or guide
- 3. NO photos on the sites
- 4. Gift of tobacco ( in our equipment room)
- Rooster Rock is to be treated with the same respect.
- A Hike Etiquette sheet has been made , thanks to Ingrid F for doing this.
- Gerry J spoke to us about renewals of hike leaders certificates.
- The VTA will cover the $ 5.00 renewal fee only for those who are active hike leaders.
- New trail signs will be put up this spring, which was paid for with a donation from Algoma Public Health, no signs are to go on mine property.
- We need suggestions for our club activities for the upcoming Elliot Lake 60th aniversary.
- July 17 will be free hiking in Ontario parks.
- Mississagi Park once again want us to be hosts during the summer months at the park.
- Ron T and George H are going to co-ordinate the winterfest snowshoe hike on March 7.
- Our club had three winners for one year free membership.
- Volunteers will be needed for this years annual Christmas party, see Sheila H to sign up.
- Highway cleanup will be April/May and Sept/Oct.
- Our club will be involved with Lumberjack Days at Mississagi Park the long weekend in August. General meetings will be April, September, and November of this year.
- Sign up sheets are available for trail clearing.
- Christmas party will be December 3 at the Moose.
- Carol Blaquiere spoke to us of her future plans for the VTA, she has four goals in mind.
- She suggested a possible paddle and hike day.
- There will be the annual trail maintenance week in mid-May.
