General Meeting May 17, 2016

Astrid T opened meeting at 7 pm, welcoming all including guest speak Sara Daigle.
Minutes of previous meeting on March 22, 2016 accepted by Phil B and seconded by Gerry R
President's Report
- The past conference with the VTA talked about a main topic and issue dealing with insurance
- Our stipend from the City has not yet been received
- Astrid T and Ron T have met with Ian and Angela at Denison
- Trail maps will be submitted to Jim M for hiking purposes
Vice-President's Report
- The Youth Rangers will be arriving in August to help clear trails.
Secretary Treasurer Report
- Donna reported all incoming and outgoing transactions and bank balance since the last meeting of March 22, 2016
- Membership stands at approximately 111 members
- Motion to approve the report by Jim M and seconded by Marty T.
Old Business
- Sign up sheet is available for those wanting to volunteer as Mississagi Park Ambassadors, the operating dates are May 20 to September 5.
- Sign up sheet is available for those wanting to volunteer to help with Mississagi Park Lumberjack Days on July 30 and 31
- Sign up sheet is available for leaders to lead the Mississagi Park Canada Day hikes July 2 ( raindate July 3)
- A reminder that ticks are becoming more prominent in the North. Check clothing and skin for any signs during and following a hike
- A reminder to all hikers that the pace of the hike needs to suit the type of hike it is.
New Business
- Seniors Advisory Committee called to see if we had someone who wants to sit on the committee and if so contact Connie Nykyforak
- A tentative date is September 8 for pizza nite
- Phil B spoke to us of ELORA ( Elliot Lake Organization for Refugee Action)
- A motion was made for a donation from our club in the amount of $ 50.00 by Don R and seconded by Gayle R, all approved
- A motion was made for a donation from our club in the amount of $ 50.00 for the Fort McMurray Fire Relief by Shelley M and seconded by Pim D, all approved
- Emily W spoke about the arrangements being made for the upcoming paddle/hike day May 28
- Gayle R suggested that we do “ lite clearing” along the trails on regular hiking days; for example small limbs and trees
Upcoming Events
- The next hike leaders meeting will be held on September 13, 2016 at 2:30 at the clubhouse
- The next general meeting will be held on September 20, 2016 at 7 pm at the clubhouse
Guest Speaker
Our guest speaker was Sara Daigle from
Mississagi Park. She updated us on the trails and campsites
status since the city has taken over. Our club helps as ambassadors when their
staff are not there to help by giving information needed. Plans are going on for possible renovations
at the ampitheatre and for a possible
comfort station
