A LITTLE HISTORY

A little history about the bench seen in the photo of the hikers last week on the Jackrabbit Trail.

PHOTO

The bench was made by Alan Day, deceased a few years ago now, who was a very active member and President of the club for years from its inception. Alan is remembered by a plaque on the Tran Canada Trail sign in Westview Park.

The bench was made as a memorial for another member, Doug Ellinor, who had also been a very active individual, always ready to do trail clearing, hiking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. Like Alan, the club was a big part of his life. He loved the Jackrabbit   trails, hence the reason for the bench to be placed there.

One of the problems installing the bench was, how the h... do we get it up there? First try was with my truck, the trail was wider back then, but that ran into trouble - $600 worth! We had to leave it in the bush and borrowed an ATV from the City and were able to put it in place.

For your information.
