Just followed Chuck down "Wolf Run" south of town... 10 hikers 6 inches of fresh powder.. followed the trail for a while, seeing moose tracks, mice runs and had a burrowed grouse explode out of the snow beside the trail... after we changed our panties we went on skirting swamps, winding through trees and making a fine trail.. Off the main trail the snow was knee deep even in snow shoes.. We stopped for a break and a family of whiskey jacks hopefully surrounded us.. sadly in vain. 4km in -14 or so.. noses red , breathing hard, we returned to the cars where I put one hand in my pocket to fetch keys, had gloves and poles in the other hand, stepped on my own snow shoe and fell over into the snowbank.. my kids would have been proud...
