As we gathered in the Scotiabank parking lot before this hike it was apparent that some of us had not finished celebrating the new year !
There were 9 of us who started out from the Esten Dr North entrance to the Porridge Lake Trail. We went to the old Landfill site and along a ridge just south of Porridge Lake.
We also used part of an ATV trail to venture towards Pearson Avenue . Then we used our "Runway Walk" skills or some hikers called it a "Roadside Sobriety Test" as we walked back to the parking lot using the narrow tracks of a side by side vehicle.
Two of our group wore snowshoes for the trail overlooking Porridge Lake.
Many of us spent time feeding nuthatches and chickadees along our travels this morning.
The mild weather had awakened some critters such as chipmunks and raccoons. Other tracks showed that a very industrious beaver pulled birch branches across the trail and down a very steep hill to a pond.
Total distance hiked was 4.5 km
A good way to start 2023!!
