Eight hikers completed the Mt. Dufour & Fire Tower loop via Horne Lake and Westner trails. The weather was hot and the climbs were steep. There was talk of mutiny and sadistic hike leaders as the group battled bugs and heat exhaustion. Some folks dropped in their tracks and had to be revived with promises of ice cream and air conditioning!
We stopped for lunch at the Fire Tower lookout and noted the smokey haze that hung in the air – a reminder that fires were still raging out of control in the area. The rest of the hike was smooth sailing and we all enjoyed walking through the shady forest along Westner trail that led back to our vehicles and civilization.
