MELLON LAKE 2023 07 31

Chuck and I led a group of 4 to the Mellon lake trail. Fording the stream off Stanrock road, we climbed the rise to a pretty, flat trail.

Nice breeze and shady walk through 20-30 yr old forest, mostly white birch and poplar. Large variety of wild flowers. many quick hesitations when a ripe raspberry caught our eye, St. John's wort, pearl everlasting flower, lots of fireweed, a few Joe Pye weed, yarrow, coreopsis, all on full seasonal display..
out to a sunny/shady spot for snack and three good jokes (Chuck wrote one down!) and we returned the same path. We did not hurry as the raspberry's we missed were showing from this direction.. Emily was the ferocious forager.. Chuck got an early mushroom.. David got the pleasure of everyone's company and Diane still has yesterday's big bass.. hunter gatherers all..
Pretty slow pace as we nattered, learned, debated and shared along the way.
