SAMREID LAKE 2023 08 14

Grey overcast skies gave way to blue skies and sunshine by the time we reached the trailhead to Samreid Lake, approximately 2 km north of Ompa Lake on Hwy 639.  Our goal was to hike to Samreid Lake.

The trail, for the most part, is an old road, used by ATV's, moose and other wildlife. Several times we were at the proverbial 'fork in the road', and had to make a choice, as the trail was not flagged.
The walk was pleasant, the company enjoyable and Chuck used every opportunity to broaden our knowledge and appreciation for the nature around us.  Wild lettuce, brambleberries and a variety of mushrooms were identified for those of us who were not knowledgeable about the bounty nature provides for us.
After approximately 2.5 km, we turned around without reaching or sighting Samreid Lake. Although we did not get to the lake, the seven hikers unanimously agreed that our walk in the woods had been well worth the effort.  No regrets.
The trail to Samreid Lake is out there, and I am certain it will be found, flagged and enjoyed in the future.
