There was a definite nip in the air this morning. Six hikers explored a nearly snowless forest. There was a comment about the oddness of visiting a sandy beach on Esten Lake in sub-zero temperatures. However, no ice on this lake. We walked through another presumed Pym's Camp (#3?) complete with open air thunder box, without the box. At the fire, very tender and tasty grouse was sampled. The fire was hot due to the dry wood and the roasted delicacies were cooked quickly. Several trips to the lake by various people suffering cold hands were required for water to douse the fire. A short compass march led us back to the main trail. Nice photos by Keith.
