CAMP THOMPSON 2024 03 18

The day could not have been better. Sunshine, cool temperatures, a light dusting of snow and eleven keen hikers ready to enjoy the hike to Camp Thompson. It was a new trail for many in the group, and it did not disappoint.

Bushwacking around a large water feature across the trail, and stepping carefully through some soft, wet terrain were minor challenges to our group.  The running streams are evidence that spring is on its way.
The call of a pileated woodpecker was heard and a bole on a tree that resembled an owl was spotted.  Birch are shedding their bark and the hoof prints of deer, moose and many rabbits were noted. There are several offshoots along this trail that invite further exploration.
We enjoyed a pleasant break sitting around an outdoor fire pit at Camp Thompson, soaking up some sunshine, before heading back through the trail. We followed a side branch on the trail that brought us around the small lake, avoiding a large hill and adding a bit of variety to our hike.
Thank you to Sirje for sharing this wonderful trail. She scouted it and shared it with the hike leader so that we all could enjoy it.
