Mt Baldy scout+trail marking 2024 07 23

Todays hiking adventure actually began last year around this time. Sue and Don went by Seadoo to scout out what condition the Mt Baldy trail system was in, they were able to do the first half of the trail but bugs and poor trail markings prevented any further explorations, and so it was back to Mt Baldy today ( 1 yr later ) to attempt to properly mark the trail from start to finish.

We arrived at the Flack lake boat launch and were on the water by about 9:20am, 1 hour later we had covered the 5km boat ride in Don's canoe and found an area to pull the canoe up and tie it off. This part of the trail was marked fairly well and despite a few blowdowns and a creek crossing we were soon making our way up to the summit. This trail is definitely an intermediate trail with a few harder areas here and there, there is a lot of vertical hiking in the first km. Once at the top you are rewarded with 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains valleys and lakes. On our way back down the trail was hit and miss and we needed to rely on the Gaia gpx track to work our way down, many of the trail markers were missing or on downed trees so we marked the trails with tape and made it back down to the main trail. It started to rain pretty good on our canoe ride back but the lake was calm and we made it back to the boat launch without any troubles. We are hoping to make it back to Mt Baldy for a group hike before the end of Aug so keep an eye out for info on that, if that sounds like something you would be interested in checking out.
