Absolutely a stellar day to be out in the woods. No biting insects, sunshine, beautiful colours, a pleasant breeze and wonderful company.
We hiked along the Wolf Run trail, through the layer of colourful, fallen leaves. The woods have that distinctive autumn smell.
We ventured down a side trail to a pond that brought us to a stop. The pond feeds a small stream, which flows down to the main trail (we think), but the edge around the pond was very wet and mucky, so we turned back to the main trial. This side trail would be best revisited once winter has firmed up the ground and it will be possible to cross over to the far side.
We took our lunch break at the little waterfall, and were pleasantly surprised to see that there was enough water running to actually be a waterfall! The sound of the water splashing was a pleasant background to our conversation.
Unfortunately, we did not see any animal tracks even though moose are usually in the area, and the only wildlife we saw was a small frog. Still a lovely morning to be out.⁰
