Sixteen (16) CdeB hikers did not let the overcast skies dampen the 'joie de vivre' of this group. The hike along snowshoe trail was made even more enjoyable by the laughter and gentle rumble of conversations. Several chickadees sang to us and a few startled grouse/partridge took wing while a male continued its strutting display on the ground off the trail. Cranberries were picked in the nearly dry cranberry bog, and evidence in bear scat proved that we were not the only creatures enjoying the berries.
Beavers have been busy working at taking down birch trees to stock up for winter. Ruth tried to help with the work of chewing through one of the birch trees that was still standing, but did not make much headway.
A brief stop by the river, and we headed back to our cars, spotting a very large bol/growth on a birch that we hadn't noticed when we hiked in. Kudos on the tidy vehicle parking along the side of the road. And no garbage picked up along the trail! The sun did make an appearance but not until we were heading back to town. A great hike (GAIA tracked 4.7 km in just over 2 hours of actual hiking).
