Plans change and weather rules all!!
An early "morning recon" at Spine Beach resulted in a change to the start of our hike. Icy winds from the north made shore line ice clatter and clink with wave action. Trees close to the Lakeside had freezing fog or hoar frost on their branches.
So, we started at Spruce Beach where we could start protected by tree cover.
We were six brave souls who trudged about 4 and a half km to Spine Beach and return to Spruce.
The ice was smooth in protected bays but rough and crusty in areas exposed to wind and wave action.
The benches along the trail , usually inviting in summer, seemed almost intimidating in the cold. "C'mon, I dare you!"
Anyway, thanks to Mara, there is photographic proof of our hike on this first day of winter!! Minus 32C outside but our warm hearts helped us through!!
