setting out from the bank
driving north of town
finding the shared use ATV trail
following it to Many Dace Lake
a timely peek into the old pit area
caught a sandhill crane off guard
as she quietly flew overhead
we got back on the trail
a lonely trout lily
first spotted alone
not far away
was a group of friends
another peek at the pit
a pileated woodpecker
announced
our presence
an empty water bottle
was retrieved
otherwise
very little litter was seen
the crunch of the leaves
the warmth of the sun
a peaceful chat and break
at the lake
11:50 found us
back where the cars were parked
