7 Jul 2009 I lead my first hike today with 8 hikers altogether. We went on a trail to the right of Stanrock Rd, just before you get to the cottage area. It's the main trail that takes you into the back end of Stanleigh Mine site. You start by passing by a large beaver dam, that leaves the main trail quite wet. We also pass by a trail to the left that takes you to McCabe Lake. We stayed on the trail for a while, until we took a second trail off to the right again, which takes you through a nice wooded area, across a large berm, then through some more woods, and ending at a dam, separating 2 lakes. The unnamed lake where we had lunch was part of the Mellon Lake Water System. It was quite buggy when we started our hike & overcast, The sun came out for a while during lunch, thank goodness for no rain on my first hike lead! A nice rea to go and see waterfowl in the Spring & Fall, or maybe moose! There are even little areas to go down and sit near the water's edge. Everyone had a great time, I did not lose anyone, and I even gave Shelley the dayoff! Thankyou for helping me Shelley! I will try and lead some more hikes soon!
