l. Phill opened the meeting at 7:00pm and welcomed all in attendance.
2. New members Barb, Al and Charlotte were introduced and welcomed.
3. It was announced that the minutes of the November meeting were posted on the bulletin board and on the blog.
4. Coming Events:
( l) The hike to Nancy-Jo'es cottage was scheduled for February 20 and Nancy
Jo commented on driving to and the parking at the starting point.
( 2) The Winterfest cookout and children's snowshoe event was scheduled for February27.
(3) Christmas party 2010 - A coordinator and volunteers will be required and a sign up sheet was available. It was determined that the Renaissance Centre will be the location.
(4) Phill will attend to the reservation required at Westview Park for the summe pot luck.
5. Treasurer's Report : Brenda reported that our last donation to the Special O lympics was in
April, 2009 and that the last donation to the Food Bank was in October, 2008, although a
subsequent donation to the Food Bank had been approved at the November meeting. It was also reported that the City's reimbursement for trail clearing in 2009 had not been received. Alan will foitow up. Katimavik volunteers assisted the Club in the GPS mapping of City trails. Gerry described the program. Gifts to the volunteers cost $200.00. Nancy-Jo moved and Emily seconded a motion to approve the expenses. Motion approved. The Club bank balances were reported to be $2,636.94 in November and $2,563.57 currently. The current balance included a profit of $62.00 from the Christmas Party. Darla moved and Barb seconded a motion to approve the Treasurer's Report. Motion Approved.
6. Trail Report - Gerry reported that the new chain saw authorized in November had been
purchased.{ He further reported that the trails are clean, in good condition and well used. Chuck
will prepare a clearing program which will commence in the spring. Phill reported that Debbie
Berthelot has expressed concern over trespass and abuse of the mining properties by some
members of the community. He further reported that she has no concerns with the club use of the property and will continue to coordinate with us.
7. City Hall, VTA report- Alan reported that $92,000 had been received from the N ational Trails Coaliiion and $120,000 from the City and that all funds will be spent. The shared use motorized trail and the Stanrock Trail had been relocated. An application has been made for a new interpretive sign and the Cobre Trailhead Improvements have been made to the Spine Beach Trail including a new footbridge.There will also be some side trimming along some snow machine trails. they would also like to install a bridge at Crooked Creek on the VTA. Alan also reported that the East Algoma Stewardship Committee will be presenting green initiatives at farmers markets this summer, potentially in Spanish and Desbarats. Phill reported that Alan is now the interim president of the VTA.
8. Other Business - It was reported that hoodies($40), sweatshirts($35) and zippered
sweatshirts($50)w ith the Club logo - the same ones given to the Katimavik volunteers- are now
available.
9. Presentation - Sandy Guse gave an enlightening and informative presentation regarding the
structure, nature, principals, techniques and objectives of our local search and rescue team.
10. Alan showed some pictures of the types of GPS maps prepared by the Katimavik volunteers that had been described by Gerry.
11 . Nancy-Jo won the 50/50 draw and donated the proceeds back to the club.
12 The next meeting was announced to be April 20, 2OlO.
