issues for hikers.
Approval of Minutes of May Meeting
Treasurer’s Report:
Vice –President’s Report:
Trail Master’s Report:
1) Mine Site Closure: Rainbow Ridge Trail construction crews were working at Ryan Lake trail
crossing . Rainbow Ridge Trail was scheduled to be re-opened Sept. 14.
2) Leisure Hikes: Congratulations to Chuck for spearheading this and to the new hike leaders who are leading these hikes.
3) Hogweed: has been sighted on some mine property. If we see it don’t touch it. Report it to Debbie Berthelot.
4) Emergency # : If we need emergency personnel while on a hike on mine property we are to call 911 and also call 705-461- 0466. That is the number for the person who opens the yellow gate at the mine property for emergency personnel to enter the mine property.
5) C.P.R. Course: Do we want to offer another one in the fall? Spring course went well. Do we want to offer to pay half of the fee as we did in the spring? Participants will need to bring their own lunch/water etc. to keep costs low. We will ask for a vote on whether to have another C.P.R. course in the fall.
6) New Hike Leaders: New leaders seem to be enjoying getting experience at leading Leisure Hikes. Some are considering leading Easy Hikes.
7) Grant from C.A.W: We received word from the local union representative that our club has been given a grant of $200.00 . The cheque has been received and deposited in our club’s bank account. A note of thanks has been sent to the local CAW representative.
8) Cobre Lake Sign Dedication: This went well on June 16. Alan Day was thanked for his efforts in getting the sign put up. This story was included in the VTA newsletter.
9) Junior Rangers: In July our club had help from four Junior Rangers from MNR with their lead Harry Van Amelsvoort to clear the Boland River Trail and Helen’s Trail. Both trails are considered to be Intermediate Trails due to their length and terrain.
10) Larry’s Hike: Twenty-nine hikers came out to show their respect for the memory of Larry Clinesmith on Sept.4. Steve chose a very significant site, Rooster Rock, for the hike. Lionel and Carol explained why this place is so important to the local First Nations. Individual hikers spoke of their memories of Larry.
11) Voyageur Trail .Association (V.T.A.): Annual General Meeting: Stokeley Creek Lodge (north of SSM) Oct. 27. Not sure if I can attend. If anyone else wishes to attend please let me know.
12) V.T.A . Vice President Eastern District.: Any interest in taking this position? Meetings are 3 times a year. It keeps us aware of issues in the VTA and keeps them aware of our activities and issues. Alan Day used to be in this role.
13) Christmas Party: Dec 15 at Curling Club. Maggie will prepare the dinner. Al and Charlotte have made arrangements for the evening but need someone or several persons to oversee the preparations because they will not be in town on that date. Donna will pay for the hall rental by end of Sept. Cost is $100.
14) Club Membership: Donna has updated the membership list. We have 87 paid members.
15). Wendy Diemer from the Alzheimer Society has been tentatively booked to speak at November meeting.
