Intermediate Hike, Esten Beach, March 14

Commentary by Emily
It was a cold windy morning when 3 intrepid hikers, Jake, Ron and Emily, braved the brisk north wind on their way to Esten Beach. We hiked on three different trails that went off the main Esten Beach Trail. The walk through the bush was spectacular in the spring sunshine and we were sheltered from that brisk wind I was telling you about.

There were tracks along the trail that were snowshoe hare, fox and possibly even a large dog or a wolf. We are going to go with the idea that it was a wolf track because as Jake said "It is more fun to think it was a wolf" !!

Those trails also avoided the 3 major hills that are along that road to the beach. One of them actually follows the creek coming out of Slipper Lake into Esten Lake. An eye opening experience, but also a bit disappointing. We had lunch at a small beach near the main beach. Some people had used it for a large campfire and left about 24 beer cans and bottles behind them!! I will do a return hike there with some garbage bags to retrieve that junk. Anyway, a great day to hike and explore new trails in our own backyard.

By the time we got back that wind was not so brisk. We returned to the vehicle after 3 and half hours, so no one else was too brisk either!
