REQUEST FOR POSSIBLE TRAILS
President Dave or whomever this reaches:
I hope you are doing well. Like many I am missing the regular hikes.
Instead of the Voyageur Club hikes, for over 3 weeks now, I have been parking at the lower Sheriff Creek lot and hiking to the Fire Tower Lookout by myself (solo) every other day except for rain or snow.
This 2 hour hike on the road avoids slushy trails and at this time of year it is better than snowshoes or boots in the bush. I rarely meet anyone but if I do, we pass on opposite shoulders and therefore ensure probably 8 meters of distance between us.
A couple of weeks ago the City closed the parking lots on Milliken Mine Road with barriers. I sent a note to the Mayor complaining about this and pointing out that a solo hike for exercice was good for health (and immunity) of seniors.
Afterwards, I parked on the road as parking lots were not accessible and continued my hike routine.
Today I discovered the road is now completely closed even for walkers. The City has posted a city staff member in a truck to control walking on the road.
I am writing to ask for assistance in a couple of matters:
1. Suggestions for solo hikes that are still open (I tried the golf course but that road is also closed);
2. Communications with the City Council and Algoma Medical Officer of Health to open up some places which are readily accessible for solo hiking.
