CHUCK'S FAREWELL GATHERING 2023 08 26

Louise and the Social Committee organized us and the planning came off without a hitch. Sue, Renee and Heber had the BBQ's going hard and the sausages and burgers were great. The salads were tasty and plentiful.

The celebratory cake was a hit and colorful and scrumptious. Sue has that job permanently.

The weather co-operated so we could take the meals outside in the sun.

Diane Bellingham created a large hand made card for all to sign and Jim B conducted the crowd in for the meal.

David made a short speech of thanks, noting that Chuck was instrumental in starting the leisure Monday hikes as well as ensuring that we leaders kept to the agreed speed and distance parameters..  Chuck also started , and in reality ran, the new Thursday Afternoon Senior's hikes. Thinking of others and how to have them still enjoy the beauties of our area while slowing down was his reason to lead

Chuck also organized and led x-country excursions and kayak/canoe outings. His social networks were/are phenomenal. Each hike was spiced with information on local flora, geology or history. Special interest was mushroom season.

In short Chuck made a HUGE contribution to the Coureurs de Bois for many years. His legacy in terms of  finding, marking and clearing trails is unmatched.  To his last hike with us he was telling us to make the trail better than we found it by either picking up other's litter, clearing deadfalls or removing a trip hazard..

Hoping that he comes back for visits and good luck on those southern trails my friend.
