A short Easy Hike this morning started out with 15 but due to equipment problems and an appointment we finished with 13
The temperature was mild for a January day. Most of us have only had about 2 and a half weeks of snowshoeing experience due to the late arrival of snow this season. So, we had a short but rigorous hike .
We started at the Gates of Hell. So named by a former hiker who did not enjoy the long steep hill behind the yellow gate at the end of Milliken Mine Rd. That led us up to Lacnor Mine Site. Smooth stomping all the way up. We turned to follow the Jackrabbit Trail from Lacnor to the Firetower Rd. A short walk on the Firetower Rd led us to the main part of the Jackrabbit Trail system. We saw grouse tracks, maybe wolf tracks, and a busy set of mouse tracks !
Lunch was at the picnic table beside the erratic. . We tried a new method of clearing off the snow from the table . It got mixed reviews !!
Good conversations and nutritious snacks and then across the hydro line to follow a seldom used part of the Jackrabbit Trail System down to the Firetower Rd. and the cars!
People found it not too long and not too short. It was just right! So it was almost a Goldilocks Hike!!
Five kms in total .
