PINE POINT TRAIL 2024 01 06

Fifteen of us braved winter's first blast of snow this am . We started at the Washington Snow Dump and proceeded through the Woodpecker Trail System. We threaded our way on ATV trails and footpaths beside  Westhill Trailer Park and then between Angel Lake Frame Crescent condos to Canmet Snow Dump.

From there we took a path through cattails and over a makeshift bridge to a path on the east side of Angel Lake . This took us to ELATV trail 2. We followed that to another trail to our Lunch spot on Pine Point at the South East point of Angel Lake.

We hiked on sometimes treacherous icy trails through stands of yellow birch ,  maple  hemlock and huge white pines.  Pileated woodpeckers and beavers had made their presence known along our route. Several trees looked like vertical penny whistles with the array of woodpecker holes in them. We saw a large beaver lodge and a well constructed dam, as well.

Our sweep did a good job!! Her name was Ruth, and that is the truth!

Distance covered was 7. 2 km. Others hikers  may have registered different distances on their devices.
