A damp and drizzly winter day did not keep 15 hikers from tackling the Snakes and Ladders Trail this Saturday morning. The snow was quite “sticky”, so our legs got a much harder workout than from snowshoeing in light, fluffy snow! There was a lot of climbing up and down hills, so everyone was glad for the reprieve of relatively flat terrain along the ridge to the “tippy” erratic rock, where we had our snack break. From there it was promised that it would be downhill the rest of the way, but a couple of hills came out of nowhere, and this was duly noted by the hikers!
Stops were made at a couple of bird feeding stations, where several hikers tried to entice the little chickadees to perch on their hands with the promise of seeds. We arrived at the cars a little wetter and with tired legs, but it was worth it!
