SHERIFF CREEK AREA 2024 02 05

There was a lot of trepidation involved in choosing today’s hike. This very strange winter, with a lack of our usual snow, is not conducive for snowshoeing! What were we going to encounter? Do we need boots, cleats, snowshoes - these were the questions asked. So, three chose snowshoes, one had boots, and the rest used cleats - and it worked for all 9 hikers!  We hiked a part of the Jack Rabbit trail system, joining up with the yellow trail, continuing on the blue trail, back to the yellow, red, and then the trail back to the cars. The trail was much better than anticipated, to the relief of the hike leader. There were a couple of slippery areas and the snow was mostly gone along the shoreline of Horne Lake, but nothing that we could not manage. We stopped along the lake for our snack time and enjoyed relaxing under the warm sun. During our hike a helicopter was flying over the area several times, at one point flying quite low over Horne Lake. We speculated that perhaps they were searching for someone - who knows.

A good hike, enjoyed by all.
