Thursday’s hike will be the Heaven’s Gate Ridge trail. We will meet at the bank at 8:30 am and carpool to the trail. The trail leaves from Hwy 6 across from Willisville Rd. and ends at Mt. Ararat with spectacular views of the North Channel, Manitoulin Island and the La Cloche range. It is just over 12 km and about 6 to 6.5 hours at a moderate pace. This is a fairly challenging hike, so be prepared. Because the trail follows the ridge, there are no sustained climbs but many short ups and downs. It is rugged terrain, so wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots and bring plenty of water, snacks and a water/wind proof layer. So far the weather forecast looks good (sunny, high 13C), but if that changes and there’s any chance of rain we will reschedule for next week.
