Great Beaver trail 2026 01 08

Yesterday (Thursday the 8th), we set out on a snowshoe adventure around the Great Beaver Trail, stepping onto the 4.36 km route at about 10:20 a.m. Three hours and 22 minutes later, we emerged from the forest smiling, tired, and very happy to be back at our vehicles.

A thick fog hung in the air, but once under the trees it almost disappeared, wrapping us in a quiet, wintry stillness. The snow was wet, yet somehow refused to cling to our snowshoes—an unexpected gift that kept spirits high. For the first three km's we rotated trail-breaking duties through roughly two feet of fresh snow, weaving around deadfalls in what felt like a true winter wonderland.

We paused for a well-earned break at the top of Beaver Mountain—not the summit, but the high point of our trail—where snacks tasted extra good and the silence of the forest did the rest. From there, the adventure continued as we carefully descended a very off-camber slope to the bottom of the mountain. A few slips, trips, and spontaneous slides only added to the laughter and great camaraderie that defined the day.

Thanks to everyone who supported the hike, and to those who shared photos that captured the magic of a foggy winter day well spent.
