The VTA is holding a trail clearing blitz from May 11 to May 21. The section of the trail to be cleared is the section between Thessalon and Ironbridge. Our club is going to help clear it during this time period along with the members from the Saulteaux members (VTA club from the Sault) and some local hikers. Steve Dominy from the Saulteaux is organizing the sections along the trail where we will be clearing . Gerry Jean has already contacted the local motels such as Limberlost, Kegos and Bruce Bay Cabins for our accommodations.
We will not have to pay for accommodations nor mileage if we carpool. We just bring our trail clearing tools. We will work with our own “chainsaw crew” from our club. We estimate a team of 6 hikers from our club could clear and mark 5 km per day depending on the terrain and the amount of clearing to be done.
The dates that we have chosen are:
- Monday, May 13 ;
- Tuesday, May 14;
- Thursday, May 16;
- Friday, May 17;
- Saturday, May 18.
If you can work one, two or however many days during that time email Emily at frew@eastlink.ca or call 848-5980 before April 25. If you are unable to clear trail in May, we have another trail clearing blitz scheduled for August 2 to August 10 to finish the section, if necessary.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!!
